Location | Hinton Area, Rockingham County, Virginia. From Harrisonburg, Virginia, take Route 33 West toward Rawley Springs. On the left side of the road, you will see a white Church and right next to the church on the west is a lane going up east side of Coopers Mountain. This is private property and you need permission to visit cemetery. Property owned by Leonard Cooper. |
Notes | Cemetery is well maintained with white fence around it. There are 3 stones unmarked and owner doesn't know who they may be. In 1967 J. Robert Swank wrote; Indians said to be buried in this cemetery. It is reported that Gypsies had a burial plot on Coopers Mountain. Mr. Cooper did not know about Indians or Gypsies buried in the area. Coopers Mountain was also known as Giants Grave Mountain. Mr. Cooper indicated that a lady looked at the mountain and said - it looks like a giants grave. |
