Location | Bridgewater, Rockingham County, Virginia. From Harrisonburg, Virginia, travel south on Route 42 to Bridgewater. In Bridgewater turn left onto E. College Street. Go 3/10th mile and turn right into college parking lot. You will see a large tree at the end of parking lot. The two headstones are flat on ground under tree. |
Notes | Well maintained - no fence. In 1967 J. Robert Swank noted: There may be others buried here. Located in open pasture field (present day college campus). In Dr. Wayland's book, History of Rockingham County, Virginia, John Dinkle was said to be the founder of Dinkletown, presently Bridgewater. About 1810 he built a carding mill, a sawmill, and a grist mill on the north side of the river, about a quarter of a mile below the bridge. |
